Our mission is empowering generations through the Word of God to transform their lives and the lives of others.
The First Baptist Church has been a light in our community since January 1, 1824. Not only has the Gospel of Jesus Christ been preached from its pulpit, but the spacious edifice has been used for gatherings of civic interest and for the benefit of the community. The second building the church congregation built to accommodate more people in 1859 burnt to the ground in the Great Fire of 1902.
The church survived three great wars, the fire and flooding of 1902. It is with great pride that we can remember their bravery as 129 men of our congregation served in the wars, and the families that stayed behind made a united effort to feed, clothe and give support to all the soldiers.
It is because of our strong Christian brothers and sisters that rose to the occasion and helped Paterson rise from its ashes that we can come here today to this most Splendid edifice (by Architect Adolph Frederick Leicht). It is filled with colorful stained glass windows designed by Munich artist Henry Birkenstock and a beautifully designed domed auditorium, along with organ and pipes, all funded through donations from the congregation.
Today, we continue to aide and support our missionaries home and abroad. The church offers Bilingual Sunday school, Services and prayer meetings every week. A collection of the “Caja de Amor” is to provide less fortunate families with money for bills, clothes and food. We have the “Grupo Jireh”, a music band that helps the congregation praise the Lord with its energetic and upbeat hymns. The Goshen Baptist Church hold services in the chapel in Haitian Creole.
Pastor William Jackson, in his 30th year of service, is a humble servant of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His passionate sermons have brought many to open their hearts and minds to Jesus. The First Baptist Church has an open door policy- EVERYONE is Welcome in the House of Our Lord.
We will be celebrating our 200th Anniversary in 2024.
